Former Malaysian King’s Daughter Marries British Racing Driver in Lavish Royal Wedding

Tengku Puteri Ilyana Alia, daughter of former Malaysian King Sultan Abdullah, has married British professional racing driver Christopher Froggatt in a lavish royal wedding in Kuala Lumpur.

The couple exchanged vows and rings on August 7 at the Shangri-La Hotel, where they also took part in the presentation of mas kahwin, a traditional Islamic marriage gift presented to the bride.

Ilyana, 29, is the daughter of Sultan Abdullah, the ruler of Pahang who served as Malaysia’s king from 2019 to 2024. Malaysia’s monarchy operates on a rotational system involving nine hereditary rulers, with each serving a five-year term.

Froggatt, 32, is a British racing driver who competes in the GT World Challenge Europe Endurance Cup. His passion for motorsport began at an early age before he eventually entered car racing at 24.

He later gained prominence after participating in a Ferrari high-performance driving event at the Fiorano Circuit in Italy. He also founded a European racing team, Tempesta Racing.

For the wedding, Ilyana later changed into a lace bridal gown and wore a different tiara, accessorising with blue earrings and a diamond necklace from the Pahang royal collection.

Froggatt also incorporated Malaysian culture into his wedding attire, wearing a traditional tengkolok headpiece that complemented his bride’s ensemble.

The couple had largely kept their relationship private before their wedding, with few details about their romance publicly known.
